About Will

I’m Will, an independent developer in Shanghai. Before this I wrote code for many years, working my way from junior programmer to architect, until a few years ago I stepped out and started building products on my own.

In that first year I thought the hard part was building the product. It took a while to see that building it is the small step. The hard part is telling apart the needs that actually exist from the ones I wish existed, and I’m still learning that.

What I’m building

There are three products at the moment. Yipa is an AI-native private journal: records are end-to-end encrypted—not even I can read what’s inside—so you can first feel safe writing down your honest self. If you’re willing, AI can then read those records and help you find what you might have missed.

Huddle is a WeChat mini program. The more contacts we gather, the less we dare to post—precisely because the audience is the people who affect our real lives. It gives each relationship its own space, so everyday life gets shared with just the right people.

Tablow is a simple standalone app that answers “when did this last happen”: haircuts, filters, seeing a friend. One tap when it happens. Just enough features, so remembering never becomes a burden.

Why I write

Half of this site is writing, and most of it wasn’t written after I had figured things out. It was written because I hadn’t. I used to run strict check-in plans and drop them entirely after a few misses; it took a long time to see that the misses weren’t the problem, my treating each one as a verdict was. During Yipa’s security filing, someone asked me “why would you encrypt things for your users,” and that conversation finally separated “we won’t look” from “we can’t see” in my head.

What’s written down are the conclusions I held at the time. Some I’ve changed my mind about since, which seems right. Otherwise there would have been no point recording them.

About OPC

The OPC in Will.OPC currently stands for One Person Company. When I picked the name I did believe one person plus AI could carry a small business, and that belief is still being tested. I just no longer treat it as an identity I have to defend. If it turns out that working alone isn’t the best shape for me, I’ll work differently and find OPC a new explanation then. A name shouldn’t demand to be maintained.

I’ll keep using the name. Whether it’s right, let what happens next say.
